Charity Quilts

Quilters are by nature generous people; many of our members donate quilts and other items to organizations that support community needs, or as fundraisers for other worthy causes.

At our charity group meetings, we pool our efforts in many ways to meet the needs of others.  See Charity Meeting Calendar for locations and times.

Tasks done at these meetings include:

  • Sorting donated fabric and quilt tops

  • Creating backings

  • Creating and pinning quilt sandwiches with top, backing, batting

  • Machine stitching

  • Trimming, turning, topstitching

  • Tying quilts

All skill levels are welcome. Contact Candis King or Dallas Reed for more information.

If you would like to volunteer your help, but are unable to make our group meetings, there are many ways you can contribute your individual efforts:

  • Make quilt tops, using either your own fabric, or bundles or kits made from donated fabric that we provide.

  • There are about a dozen easy patterns on our website that are free to use; or let your creativity fly any way that you choose.   Bed size quilts (about 60” x 80”) are most needed; but any size can be used somewhere!

  • Many of our quilts are finished by tying rather than quilting.   Many people find this a relaxing at-home activity, or a nice way to spend a couple hours in conversation with one or two others.

  • If you are a long-arm quilter, or prefer to quilt on your domestic machine, we’d love to give you the tops and backs and batting to work on.   This is a great way for newer quilters to practice their skills, or more experienced quilters to experiment with different patterns.

  • If binding is your favorite step, we can use your assistance as well.

Supplies for all these tasks can be picked up, and completed work turned in, at most in-person guild meetings.  If getting out is a problem for you, contact the charity quilting team lead to arrange for other times and places to exchange items.

A list of organizations we have supported is available below; if you know of other groups that could use our work, please let us know (including contact information if available).

With your assistance, the Quilters Guild of Indianapolis can continue to provide quilts and other items to help keep our neighbors safe and warm.

Everyone is welcome!
