Rachel Derstine: Inspiration to Process
Info
Rachel is an art quilter residing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her fiber art employs both traditional quilting techniques such as piecing and applique as well as contemporary applications such as fusing, couching, use of textile paint and non-wovens. She also incorporates the use of digital images printed on silk. She teaches nationally and online. She has a music background with degrees in piano performance, and had a long music teaching career. Quilting has only become the focus of her work in the last 12 years. She spent the first 15 years in Japan, as a child of missionaries, and her work is greatly influenced by her childhood surroundings. Her works have been featured in invitational and juried gallery shows and fine art/craft shows throughout the country.
